Absorb Learn - Mobile App

Learn Anywhere

To better serve Learners across a wider set of businesses and environments, Absorb identified the need for a much improved version of a mobile experience in the form of an app. A tighter experience made for devices would increase learner engagement with properly formatted content. Most importantly, Learners should have the ability to easily download training for remote or offline use.

The Right Tool in the Right Hands

Numerous wireframe prototypes were explored and tested to quickly zero in on a more streamlined download amanagement experience. A full suite of features were included with the intention of having parity with the web experience, and to serve as a roadmap for iterative feature expansions.

After surveying a diverse range of interested clients, the most common use-cases for toggling between online and offline use were labour/tradesmen who needed easy access to training on an active jobsite, and in retail/restaurant industries where a rotating set of users could be trained on a shared device.

Finding Training

Learners have the ability to view their mandatory training or browse for their own. At a glance they can sort through a list of courses to launch, or quickly download for later use.

Downloading Courses

Each course can vary greatly in size, giving the Learner the opportunity to gauge the download package while previewing the course content.

Learning Methods

The App supports a derth of content options, from videos, PDFs, text and fully interactive third-party lessons.

Managing Downloads

To accommodate devices with limited capacity and give learners reasonable data management, an easily accessible flyover affords removing downloaded courses and syncing progress.

Syncing Progress

Through a badge notification system and prompt at login, users are reminded to sync their progress at the first opportunity when reconnecting to service. A sync all feature was added with the notifications to make updates easy, while still giving some control over upload time (since some updates get be a large data draing).

Serving a Wider Set of Needs

Support for both iOS and Android systems, as well as tablet formats expanded greatly the scope of the project just to keep a consistent experience across devices.

After some time overall adoption remained somewhat low, confirming the somewhat niche environment of specific industries. Many quality of life features have been since added, including distinct user name/avatar to assuage the use of shared devices, biometric login for easy access, and custom branding for an immersive experience.
